Guatemala
This page deals with Haflingers in Guatemala. I would like to thank Ing. Ernst Daschill for his contribution of interesting historic pictures and information. Mr. Daschill used to work
for the Steyr Trucks and Tractors division and was sent to Guatemala a local representative for four years in the late 60s and early 70s. In this Central American country, the Steyr network
was also used to sell the comparably small Haflinger. The Austrian off-road vehicle was also presented on trade shows in the neighbouring countries Honduras and El Salvador.
Diese Seite handelt von der Haflinger-Geschichte in Guatemala. Ich möchte mich gerne bei Herrn Ing. Ernst Daschill für seine interessanten historischen Bilder und Informationen
bedanken, die er für diese Dokumentation beigesteuert hat. Herr Daschill war bei Steyr angestellt und war in den späten 60ern und frühen 70ern für vier Jahre
als Vertreter für Steyr LKWs und Traktoren in Guatemala. In diesem Zentralamerikanischen Staat wurde die Steyr-Vertretung auch dazu genutzt, um den Haflinger zu verkaufen.
Der kleine Österreichische Geländewagen wurde auch auf Messen in den Nachbarstaaten Honduras und El Salvador präsentiert.

The Haflinger shown to the left was disassembled (engine/chassis/platform) and the parts were flown up a high mountain in the Quetzaltenango region (near Lake Atitlan) by a helicopter. On top of the mountain,
the Haflinger was re-assembled and used by a US surveying company. Picture: Ing. Ernst Daschill.
Der Haflinger links wurde in Motor, Fahrgestell und Plattform zerlegt. Die Baugruppen wurden von einem Hubschrauber einzeln auf einen Berg in der Region Quetzaltenango geflogen. Dort wurde der Haflinger

Hello I am from Guatemala the same group as Daniel Schldknecht. he is my best Friend in Central America
my name is Stuardo García I am a Doctor (1963 700ap Hafi and a Pinzgauer).
In my country we have um small group of Haflinger and Pinzgauer we have 21 Haflinger and 6 Pinzgauer and my web is http://galeon.hispavista.com/hafipinzasocgt / you can see our pictures of those that we think it is the best 4x4 ever built, and i think if they had bulild it before the II WW the famos Jeep would not exist.

Hi,
Name is Daniel Schildknecht.
I own a 1964 700AP and a 1977 Pinzgauer in Guatemala.
Together with my brothers and a group of friends we have restored several haflingers in the past years.
All of the Haflingers found in Guatemala were imported to the country in the mid 60's. The Haflingers were very popular in the country side. Up to this date, people still remember them as the most reliable vehicles for offroad use.
Anyway, we have lot's of pictures and plenty of stories to write or tell.
By the way, It's nice to see more people interested in this fablulous vehicles around the world.
