Great site!
I just bought a '69 Haflinger from a friend who used it on his farm in Gippsland, Victoria. Apparently it was used by two girls to drive to Monash University (It still has the 1973 and 74 parking permits on the windscreen). Then used on their family farm for the next 40 yrs where it was always garaged. It received a new motor, Dynastart and brakes in 2011. It looks like someone was restoring it, but was sold at a classic car auction in 2012 to my friend. He is moving from the farm so I bought it from him. As it has always been garaged it has no rust and is in quite good original condition. It has the PTO and only one rear footwell. I hope to register it and use it for weekend Cafe runs :-)

At one time a friend gave me the remains of the first Aus Haflinger. He kept the mechanicals and I scrapped the body. The Australian agent confirmed that it was the first when I ordered parts for another Haflinger I had which had the engine from the first Haflinger. The engine swap probably came about through an engine reconditioning swap. At this time The Haflinger I am working on is one of the Aus army amphib

An excellent and very interesting web-site .. for some years now I have owned and restored a 1974 Haflinger, I've named U.M.O.
( Unidentified Mobile Object ) because many people ask " what is this ? " in astonishment and admiringly, never having seen a <Hafi> before. It also has it's own twin-axle trailer, to be towed behind our Motorhome. I use it regularely with another small Army-type trailer for transporting garden-refuse, carriing items from a Hardware-store, shopping, etc. but most of all having a lot of fun roaming the fire-trails of the Baranduda-Ranges around here and towing / launching my Jet-Ski at Lake Hume near my home here in Victoria. .. where ever I take it, U.M.O. never fails to draw a crowd. Pictures are available on request and congratulations an this informative web-site.

I have a 1964 model Haflinger ( Ex swiss army) currently being restored, I also had three haflingers in the 80's, one was ex Australian army, the other two were assembled in Melbourne in the late 60's or early 70's, and used on a sheep farm, they are a lot of fun. I now have a 1976 Pinzgauer 712m also being restored.

I used haflinger extensively when working in the mining game in northern South Australia in the early 60s.
Ideal for that terrain. Able to travel at 40mph across almost all terrain.
I was once out run by an emu though.
While working for BHP They attempted to use them in South West Tasmania near Port Davey. A real disaster the first one flown in under slung a helicopter was accidentally dropped from about 200'. Unuseable.
The second arrived intact. It was bogged the moment it left the run way of the air strip. We only used it to ferry supplies from the air strip to our work boat. As far as I know they are probably still there.

Each one is different in features. Please advise if you would like to see photos. Regards. Rick

I understand that the Australian Army only had 50 of these made and imported. Yes I will send picture eventually. In addition I am a member of the English haflinger Club.
