Please note that this page is about Series 2 Haflingers, "Type" refers to the different Series 2 US-Haflinger types.
Only few US version Haflingers were made in Series 1, so there is an extra page for them.

Typical Type 2 US-version Haflinger with Lucas 7" Sealed Beam headlights, Lucas indicators and square Lucas Side Markers (amber in the front and red in the rear). Windscreen-mounted central driving mirror (VW part) and elevated upper seat cushions on the front seats were also standard on Type 2 US Haflingers.

Basic Type 2 model with short canvas cab and no sheet metal plates between front and rear seats (which seemed to be standard also).
Identifying feature of the Type 2 US Haflinger: "Pathfinder" badge on the left side and instruction plate for tire pressure.
Similar look on the right side, but no Pathfinder badge.
Type 2 dashboard: Two instruction plates on the left side, button-type fuses, speedo in mph. The green light is the warning light for the trailer indicator. Red button on the top right side is for hazard warning lights. The turn switch next to the fuel warning light is for the wipers (you can choose between two speeds!).
Here you see the additional plate on the dashboard with manufacturing date and vehicle identification number.
By the way: It's interesting, that most Type 2 US Haflingers have a 2:38 hub gear reduction (instead of the usual 2:21 in Series 2). That means a lower high speed of 44 mph instead of 47 mph.

Typical engine for a Type 2 US Haf: Late version with closed oil circulation system. Instruction label on the air filter in english. Cyclone air filter mounted on the oil bath air filter instead of the regular air intake pipe.
Note the fan with steep blades, which was also used on tropical Haflingers. Note also the reverse light in the vertical engine lid and the trailer lights power outlet in the left engine compartment (both standard with this Haf type).
My own "Pathfinder", which is being restored at the moment. Brought it home from Atlanta, Georgia in 2004.
Here you can also see very well the Type 2 rear light compartment and the reverse light.

Sadly, some Bug-Eye Haflingers end up like this one... Note the rather rare green seat cushions. Seen on ebay long time ago.
Abandoned interior, but one can still see the beautiful original dashboard!
Another abandoned vehicle somewhere in the USA.
This poor friend will need some work until it's ready to go!
One of the US-Importers also tried to merchandise the Haflinger as a "Beach Patrol" vehicle with some modifications, such as: Hardtop, tires, seats etc. However I don't think that many of these were made.
